Passion – The fuel of dreams

Allow passion into your life to turn a dream into reality, otherwise, it will just remain a dream with no fuel to ignite the fire within.

Belief in yourself and your abilities is the starting point of any dream. Until you have achieved it, do everything you possibly can to bring you closer to it. You have to literally walk, talk and breathe that dream. Thoughts definitely put a picture to what you want, but it is action that will eventually make it happen.

If it is a career advancement you are looking for, start by writing down what you dream to become. Now draw pointers to what you need to do to get closer to your goal. You might need to do a few college courses or attend university to give you the knowledge or qualifications that you require. Bring out all the dedication and drive that is stored in your being and enrol for that course. Once you have done that the dream is already beginning to take shape. It might take a year or it might take three years but the journey has begun and it took drive and passion to begin that journey.

I have a dear friend who started a degree course in Art and Design while in her late forties. Recently I attended her exhibition, which she presented as part of her dissertation for her Masters degree. It has been an amazing journey for her and in the process she lost a dear member of her family but that did not stop her. We reminisced about the time she was planning to start the course and now seeing the completion of it brought tears to both our eyes. To me she is a prime example of how self-belief and passion can be used to fulfil any personal ambition.

Passion can also be used for personal development. If there are areas of your life that need improvement or change, start researching on how to get the help you need. Be prepared for people who might discourage you or point out the negative aspects of your decision. Take their opinions in a positive light and do not be distracted or diverted from your goal. After all, it is your dream and it will take you to make it happen. Others might help you along the way, but it is your passion that will help you complete the journey you have started.

There are many popular figures who have used the power of passion for advancement. TV presenters, singers, artists or film stars, all prove that ordinary people can become anything they aspire to be if they put their hearts and souls to it. Nelson Mandela stands out as a prime example of a person who went through severe hardship for a good part of his life. In the end, his passion and vision helped him get his own freedom and his country’s freedom too. He became the President of South Africa and the only thing that pushed him on was his dream of making his country a better place for his people.

“The more intensely we feel about an idea or a goal, the more assuredly the idea, buried deep in our subconscious, will direct us along the path to its fulfilment” (Earl Nightingale)
